Hardware & Software Requirements

Before you begin using Peoples Net Banking, there are some things that you should know. Please read the information provided regarding your Internet program's security and downloading tips.

To sign up for Online Banking, you must first read the Peoples Net Banking Agreement and Disclosure Statement and then complete the Peoples Net Banking Application.

Checking Your Browsers for 128-bit Encryption

To ensure security of your financial information, Peoples Net Banking requires that your computer's internet browser program (usually Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) is capable of 128-bit encryption.

To check the encryption level of your browser, please do the following:

Internet Explorer:

     Open Internet Explorer

     Using the menu items at the top, click on HELP and then ABOUT INTERNET        EXPLORER

     You will see an item labeled CIPHER STRENGTH

     The information following this item should read "128-bit", if not you will need to        update your browser. Please refer to the section labeled Download Tips below.

Netscape Communicator 4.7x or greater or Navigator 4.x or greater

     In Navigator or Communicator, go to the Help menu and select About Navigator        (or Communicator).

     Look for the section that reads "Contains encryption software from RSA Data        Security, Inc".

     If the next paragraph says "This version supports U.S. security", that means you        have 128-bit security. If it says you have International security, that means you        have 40-bit security.

Download Tips

Upgrading your browser is fairly easy, however, it can take several hours to download the upgrade, depending on the speed of your internet access.  We can offer a few download tips, however, we take no responsibility and assume no liability for the process of upgrading your Internet browser. 

     Before you begin the download, print the instructions first.

     Download at night when less people are on the internet and download should        be faster.

     Selecting 'Run This Program From It's Current Location' in the File Download        window will run the browser upgrade over the internet and automatically        upgrade your browser for you.  This will take longer than the 'Save This        Program to Disk' option.

     Selecting 'Save This Program to Disk' will download the browser upgrade file to        your PC in a folder that you must choose.  You will then need to follow the        directions that you printed to continue the upgrade process after the file is        downloaded.

     If you choose 'Save This Program to Disk',  you can select the 'Close This        Dialog Box When Download Completes' to close that window and        automatically disconnect from the internet.
